I have just officially updated my blog!!

I am changed my blog address to www.igcphotoblog.com

For the past couple months I have been trying to figure a way to really stream line and improve in my blog and I finally have figured it out. Plus I have been using this blog set up for way to long. I have come to grips with the fact that a blog is a fluid medium, meaning that it needs to be changed and updated. Hope you enjoy the new blog format, comment on the new blog and let me know what you think.

Favorites

I'm not a person of favorites but I do have a favorite photograph and a favorite photographer. This post is about my favorite photograph. The strange thing is that I don't have any other definite favorites. I don't have just one favorite restaurant, I have the restaurant that I like in a specific style. I don't have a specific favorite band, I have a hand full of bands that I really like. That list of bands is consistently changing. I used to ask, "what CD are you currently listening to?" That would tell a lot about a persons taste in music, but now in the "age of technology" we listen to digital music. Everyone seems to listen to everything on their iPod or favorite digital music player (I can't be one sided, there are other great players out there....yea right!). Side note, I love me some vinyl, it has changed my view and interaction with music. Movies, people can talk about this one forever, I could not put together a top 10 of my favorite movies. Aright, so on to my favorite photograph. It was take by Danny Lyon in 1966 while he was traveling with the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club.

He described this collection of photographs as, "an attempt to record and glorify the life of the American bikerider." Why do I like the image so much? That is a tough question to answer. There is something in the photo that draws me. It's not just what he portrayed visually through the lens but the emotion and feeling in the image. If I had to pin it on something, I would say that it targets the part of my personality that enjoys the adventure of life.

Every time I go home I am reminded of this photograph. This past Christmas I decided to try and recreate this photograph. I only had my iPhone and one chance to get a shot with no cars around. I didn't want to turn around or wait for the trip home. This was taken on the bridge between Kentucky and Indiana that spans the Ohio River. Like I said, while I'm driving on the bridge, I only think about that photo. I think I did a ok job at recreating it.

I love Mugs!

For those of you who know me, this is not a surprise. There is something about drinking something hot, my preference is coffee, out of a mug. On the other hand, having a soda from a mug is fantastic! I guess I could say that just about everything tastes better from a mug. The other day i brought all of my favorite mugs to the office to photograph them. It was fun, at one point I had them in a row on my desk. So naturally I had to pick my favorite and ask everyone else which one they like. I didn't post the photos in any order, they are random. I can feel your tension, you really want to know which on in my favorite, it's number 10 (the tenth photo from the top). There is a story behind all of the mugs. My favorite mug is from Mazatlan Mexico. It is hand crafted and hand painted. He makes a whole set of dishes in this style. The one thing about the mug that made me fall in love with it is the colors, especially the blue. The blue combined with the other colors is absolutely beautiful!! Would love to hear your thoughts about which mug is your favorite. This is no contest and I'm not giving out my mugs, i love them way to much. I just like to hear other peoples opinions.

Food and books about food

One of my goals for the month of January is to bake a loaf of bread. You might be thinking, "thats really easy, throw some flower and yeast in a bread machine and people will think you are a hero." My answer to that, I already have a bread machine and have done many loafs and they are tasty. Also, i'm a hero, but thats for another blog. Side note, Heroes was one of my favorite tv shows. Back to bread, I was talking to my good friend Jeannie, who just made some awesome bread for the new years party I went to, and I asked her where she gets her bread recipes. She recommended that I check out Health Bread in Five Minutes a Day. Now my mind is blowing up with everything there is to know about bread. There is more than just a bunch of science talk about bread, there are also a bunch of amazing recipes. But, I am secretly eating up all the science behind making healthy bread that tastes amazing and yes, pun intended.

A new rediscovered joy about working and living in downtown franklin is the $.50 day old pastries from Merridies Bakery. It has become a regular stop on my way to the office. Fifty cents is an amazing deal for a delicious white chocolate blubbery scone!!

Franklin Creative Suite

Just before Thanksgiving Stoney and I were at our favorite local Mexican restaurant, Pueblo Real, and I brought up that there was some open office space in downtown Franklin and he should check it out. This is a topic we have been talking about for a while. Some of my friends were in the space and they loved it and mentioned to me that they were moving out, so thats when i mentioned it to Stoney. Within 24 hours of talking with Stoney he had everything planned out. Now I just said that he should check out the space, not "i want to move in to the space." If you know Stoney, when he is on something he is completely all over it. But it all turned out to be amazing. We decided to go for it! We had two weeks to get the financial backing needed to rent out the space and build it out. So we sold a empty room and in two weeks we had all the people necessary, plans for the build out and they money. They first weekend of december was the beginning of the build out. Stoney's parents cam from alabama with a truck load of stuff and they stayed to help for the weekend. The four of us spend the entire weekend working in the office. It was a lot of longs days and nights, but it payed off. We didn't completely finish but a amazing start. Our official starting date was the 15th of december but we were having a open house on the 14th. That meant everything had to be done by the 14th. It was a long couple really hard weeks, i really had no clue what day it was. But in the end everything got done. Looking back it was a great time. That is how we started.

Senior Portraits and Thanksgiving!!

It's been about a week or so sense I have updated the blog, so here we go. A couple weeks ago I was able to take some senior portraits of a long time friend and a student in our youth group. She has grow up to be an amazing woman who is sold out to the Lord. Beckah, Julie (her mom) and I went out to a horse farm out in the country. Not only did we get out there at the perfect time of day, but this place was absolutely beautiful. Sometimes I go to new paces that are amazing and I don't know where to start shooting, this was one of those location. I just wanted to hang out and enjoy the surroundings, but that's not why we were out there. I thought I would get a couple of these photos up before Thanksgiving took over. Speaking of, I am excited to be spending Thanksgiving here is Nashville. It's not something I get to do often. I'm usually at home in Indiana with the family. But I'm a bit jealous of my sister and mom, they are going to the circus (for those people out there who have not been to a circus, you are really missing out). It is one of those strange Thanksgiving half traditions we have. Anyways, I will be spending the day with the Roe's and the clan of people they invited to their place. I'm sure there is going to be a bunch of amazing food, a lot of laughter, football, games and napping...sounds like it will be a great holiday!!

Two Anniversaries this weekend!

Sunday was Kyle and Lisa Cooper's one year anniversary and today (monday) is Scotty and Heather Daily's two year! I wish both couples the best and hope they have a blast celebrating!

Tenpenny Family

Had the opportunity to take family portraits for some good friends, Keith and Debbie Tenpenny. They not only wanted family portraits but they wanted images of them for their new life coaching business they are in the process of starting. Halfway through editing these images I realized the Keith was super blessed to have such a beautiful family. His boys really surprised me. When we got to our location they took off. But they were location scouting. They both found spots where they wanted their photos taken. Not only were they super proud of their location but they really wanted their photo taken in THEIR spot. It was awesome. For a good portion of the time we were sitting on the ground throwing leaves all over each other, classic for the fall. We ended the shoot with me just taking photos of the two of them. They said that was the first time sense their wedding that they had a photographer spend personal time photographing the two of them. Wedding in AZ - Santee Wedding {part II}

Just finished up the edit for Sean and Rachel Santee's wedding. It was one of the most beautiful setting for a wedding. I had a first in my editing, there are photos that are straight off the sensor. I didn't have to do any editing to the photos, not just a slightest tweak. The wedding was a super simple yet very elegant wedding. The setting lent to the simplicity and it also created the beauty. Her dress was brand new but had a very vintage look and feel. Her flowers had orchids in them, that was the first time for me to see that. All that to say, it was very beautiful. I am so glad they let me come out and capture their wedding. I not only got some amazing photos but I was able to spend time with good friends.

I did have the scare of a lifetime during the wedding. I had just finished shooting the girls photos and was getting ready to start with the guys and I had about four images left on my memory card. So I went for my pocket and my card case was not there. Then, I went to my camera bag and the cards were not there. Next, I traced my steps to see if I had set them down somewhere. This whole time I am not to worried because they should be in one of those places but they were nowhere to be found. Now I started to get worried. I have four photos left, no memory cards, no memory card reader (it's kept with my cards) and I don't have the cord to connect to my camera (I use the card reader). Then I stopped and thought about where they could be and remembered, they are on the golf cart I was driving around earlier. So I went to where I dropped off the cart and the cart was not there. I talk with the guy working and he said the cart was on the course somewhere and he was the only person in the shop and could not leave. I then sent my friend to the CVS (we were out in the country, it was the closest and only place to go) to buy memory cards, and at the same time the wedding coordinator had sent someone out looking for the cards. In the mean time, I was using the card from on the the bridesmaids camera. To wrap this up, they found my cards and we later returned the memory cards form CVS. Oh, this all happened 30 minutes before the ceremony started.

Milktooth - Fight With Fire {Part II}

Just like in the past, I usually take photos of all the bands that participate in the Fight With Fire Concert. This past time, however, I was only able to get photos of one band, Milktooth. Not only do they have great music, they are all great guys. Go to their web page and listen to their music. At concerts I usually don't buy merchandise but this was the exception. I felt compelled to support them and their music, plus they were selling their music on vinyl. That was the dagger, I absolutely love listening to music on my record player.

Wedding In AZ {part I}

I just got back from an amazing trip to Phoenix, AZ. My friend from college, scott, lives on there and his sister-in-law hired me to shoot her wedding this last weekend. Scott is a high school teacher and they were on fall break this last week, which was perfect timing. I was able to shoot the wedding on Saturday and then stay out for vacation time with Scott and his family. It was a super relaxing and enjoyable week. His wife amber just got a job and is was working in the afternoon, which meant we got to watch the kid! We went to a couple parks, visited the airport, went to the zoo, went hiking, and ate at many awesome restaurants. Here are a selection of photos from my iPhone, wedding photos are coming soon.

Fight With Fire {Part I}

Last Friday night was our first Fight With Fire event. The bill was packed with great rock bands and there was a great turn out. All the proceeds went to the local United Way to help with the Nashville flood relief, yes there is still help needed. These two photos are just a small taste of where we were. The graffiti wall was an awesome backdrop, better than anything I could have found at any store.

Holly Tree JAM Family Picnic

Had the opportunity to do a family photo booth at the most recent Holly Tree JAM Family Picnic. I had a blast taking photos of all the families and kids. It's always fun when you are at a picnic and the adults are eating dinner the the kids are running around because they have all had to much sugar. Now that might just be something I enjoy because I don't yet have kids, maybe some day I'll understand. At one point i turned around and there was a little girl playing with a bubble machine and I snapped a couple shots and they are super cute. The Tipton Family

Last week I had the privilege to shoot Link, Maria and Lendon Tipton. They are a super cool family and they live just around the corner from me. I met them at their place just before sunset and we reaped the benefits of beautiful light from an amazing sunset. They have a small creek that run through their back yard and just over it is a beautiful field with great trees. Lendon and all of his energy was loving the open fields and I think i was able to capture his energy. Link and Maria own a super creative business called Blue Nova Designs. One element of Blue Nova Events is their beautiful and creative draping for weddings. It's amazing what they can do with fabric. Neighbors and Lighting

So, I just inherited a Beauty Dish (it's a light modifier like a softbox) from my good friend Ben De Rienzo, who is a awesome photographer. I really have not spent much time working with them on shoots. So I pulled the beauty dish out of my car and did a little cosmetic repair and beautification to the inside of it. I set it up outside hoping the neighbor kids, who were playing outside, would want to take some photos with me. They initially, like most people, were not sure of it, but all i had to get was one of the kids to agree. That is exactly what happened, one of the kids was brave enough to let me take his photo first and thats all it took. By the time we were finished, I was letting the kids take photos of each other. We had a blast. Not only did I get to test my new light, I got to have fun with the neighbor kids and get some sweet photos.

Scenic Heights Part 2

When I was first talking with the band I had a idea for a group shot and that ended up being the basis for the shoot. This is really the first time I have ever done anything like this and i am super happy with the result. My idea was for the band to be on a hill at night with a city under fog below and stars in the the sky. After about three days in Photoshop and a lot of trial and error, I feel like I have made my vision a reality.

LumberJack & Jill Wedding Shower Photobooth

Last week I went to my very first wedding shower. Don't worry, I was not the only guy, it was a couples shower. I was there with my photobooth taking pictures. My friend Trish, who owns Frilly Milly Events, styled the party and part of the styling was a photobooth. The theme of the party was "Enchanted Forest" but Trish came up with a name that better described it, "LumberJack and Jill." It was a fun night of flannel and mustaches.

Scenic Heights

Right now I'm finishing up photos for the band Scenic Heights. They drove from Alabama to spend the day with me and Stoney for their first band photo shoot. We had a full and fun day of photography. We started the day in my kitchen and ended with a beautiful view of nashville during sunset. I ended up doing another series of Black & White photos and they turned out amazing, they always seem to. I know I have said this in the past, but I think they will be a consistent style of photos I take. I have more photos and will post them when they are finished.

Black & White with a Splash of Color

Recently two of my friends had a combined birthday party. The theme of the party was "Black & White With A Splash Of Color." I believe the title speaks for itself. Everyone came dressed for the occasion, there was a lot of black and white. The majority of the guys wore black with a little white and a little color, I thought it would be awesome to wear all white and a little black and color. My little bit of black was my flip flops and I wore a hat for some color. This night was a blast. Everyone started out with getting their photo taken, it was the ticket into the party. They had a room to do some art for the Birthday girls, a room to make a music video, food, dancing and games. I absolutely love these photos, they really are a good representation of my friends. Lunch On A Day Off

The day after the 4th of July is a great day to take off. I was beat after a long day of cleaning house, front yard BBQ and walking to see the fireworks. We ended up heading into downtown Franklin and joining in with the festivities. We had a blast. What I liked the most was not having to deal with traffic. We had to sacrifice a bit of the firework experience but it was worth not spending a hour in the car to drive 2 miles. He is a photo from our front yard BBQ.

The real reason I am blogging today is to mention a new friend of mine. His name is David Braud. Is is a fellow Downtown Franklin regular. He is always riding his bike into town, I love that! For the past couple months we have been doing the casual starbucks conversations, but today we actually sat down over lunch and got to know each other a little more. David is a artist through and through. What I believe to be some of his greatest work are his photographs of Franklin right after the flood. He also lives is a super historic part of Franklin that is always looked over, the Hard Bargain area. Proceeds from the sale of his images is going right back into his community. This guys really loves his community. Him and his neighbor planted and take care of a community garden...i love that!

Gardens and DVD's

This is a product that I am super excited about. Not only does it look great, but it's made with a very high quality. I used to try and make something like this at home, but it was no where near the quality. I would use my printer and print on a dvd and use a clear jewel case....i thought it looked like a million dollars...compared to this, i was way wrong. This obviously does not cost a million dollars but it looks and feels just as good. If I had a stack of these I would try and buy a personal jet and they would let me....because they look that good. Anyways, I took these photos in my my garden on my sitting stumps. The garden has been amazing, if you don't have one I recommend trying a small one. In the morning, it's a great quiet place. It helps me get up in the morning and get going. I've grown to love the cool summer morning while the sun is rising! Here is my latest photo from my iPhone using a new app.

Wedding made it to a blog!

So a couple weeks ago I dot a email from Lauren Ashley of The Wed Bug. She runs a wedding blog full creative wedding ideas and beautiful photos from real weddings. She was asking if I had any recent weddings she could feature on her blog, and what do you know...i just finished a really cool one. Wedding Photos From Ireland

All photos from Ireland are done! The wedding photos turned out to be beautiful. One of the highlights from the big day was shooting the girls. They got ready at a Bed & Breakfast out in the country. I have never been to a B&B but this is exactly what I imagined one in Ireland to look like. I could have spent all day shooting there but we only had a couple hours, I feel like I made the best of my time.

The trip was way more that just a cool experience. I truly feel like I was accepted as part of the family. So, enjoy the photos of my new family in Ireland!

This is the newest one I added to my arsenal of creative iPhone photography. We (jordan and bethany roe) were at the gas station on our way to the drive-in. Hannah & Phil Engagement Photos

So I left for Ireland last Wednesday and arrived in the afternoon on Thursday. I had a hour layover in Amsterdam and I almost missed my flight. I was literally running through the airport and was the last person in line to get on the plane. But I made it alright. My bags didn't have the luck that I had. I have never had a bag never make it to where I was going, there is always a first for everything. Thankfully I had all of my camera equipment and everything was charged and ready to go. On Friday we went to a local castle to take some photos. This was the first time I was able to spend any time with the two of them. They both are amazing people but together they are absolutely beautiful. They have a deep love for each other unlike I have seen in a long time. It's a love that I aspire to have for my future wife. iPhone Photo Of The Week

As many of you know, I have been in Ireland for the past seven days. I went over to shoot the wedding of Hannah Dimond and Philip Day. It was quite the experience. I ended up staying with Phil and his brothers. They are the real deal, born and bred in Ireland. They are actually still living in their childhood home. These are a collection of photos from the past week. As you can tell, most everything we did revolved around food. I had more meat and potatoes in this last week than I have had all this year. There will be more photos and stories to come.

Surviving the storm

My garden survived the Nashville flood. The three days of rain really took a toll on the garden. The plans were alright but the ground was another issue. When we planted we planted on irrigation rows. Meaning, we put trenches between all the plans and planted on small mounds. This is what saved the garden and the reason we planted that way. Trenching the garden allows water to flow from the garden and not take the plants with them. It's been about a couple months of watering, weeding, mulching and pruning and I am finally starting to see the fruits of my labor. My tomato plant was the first to get a small tomato and now, the majority of my pepper plans have flowered and have fallen over and starting to grow. The squash and zucchini are right behind. While i was taking the photos today I could really see that they are getting ready to explode. I am excited for some fresh veggies from the backyard! Next wednesday I will be leaving the country for a week (i will be blogging more about that soon) and I have a feeling that my garden is going to completely amazing when I return.

Sorry about not posting last week. This regular posting is new to me. Well, a couple nights ago I got a call from my long time friend Jordan and he said they (him and his wife, his brother and sister-in-law, mom, sister and niece) were going out to Arrington Vineyards for dinner. Arrington Vineyards is a local winery on a beautiful piece of property. They ended up going to Whole Foods and getting a feast of food and we got a couple bottles of wine from the vineyard. They have tables available for anyone to come out and drink wine, bring your own food to eat or just sit there....amazing! We had an absolute blast. Now to the photo. It had been overcast for the past couple days and it was that night. But right in the middle of dinner all the clouds rolled away just at the perfect time to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Having diner and laughing a lot with friends and family, plus a beautiful sunset, is a perfect way to end a day.

This is the first of my weekly blog posting. Every Thursday I will be posting a photo from my phone from the last week. I have never done regular posting, so for my mom and the two other regular readers, please have some patience with me. As many people know, this last weekend Nashville flooded and this is what i was doing during the flood. I was over at Jon and Bethany Melton's home playing Settlers and Jungle Speed. No other game gets my heart pumping like Settlers. Even if I loose or win, I am always on edge. That is why I love the game so much. I did end up with a victory!

Finally got the images from the Light One Up event done. I have posted all of them on the Facebook page and www.lightoneup.org. We had a great night of sweet rock music and hangin out with friends. It was not all done for no reason, we were raising money for a community in Africa. The Light One Up team is in talks of another concert in August, I'm looking forward to it. Enjoy the photos.

Sometime in November i got a iPhone and since then have been intrigued by all the photo apps. It has inspired and challenged me to take photos every day. I am not saying that i am doing the photo a day thing but i have been challenging myself to take photos daily. It's a way to continue to push creativity and to find inspiration in the every day.

When I say record, I mean vinyl. I know you might be thinking that no one listens to records anymore, but they are actually growing in popularity. Personally, I own a record player and prefer it to any other music medium. There is something about the rawness of the record that really draws me in. Anyways, The Grayces played a show for the release of their record and I took some photos.

Light One Up is a concert series created by a good friend of mine, Josh Jackson. This is the way Josh describes it, "Light One Up For Kenya: The Indie-Rock High Socity Ball is a unique event combining Nashville's most original music acts, fine cigars, fancy shmancy dress and all other sorts of tomfoolery all to raise awareness and funds to aid the drought crisis in Kenya."

I am working on a serires of photosgraphs for the web site of all the artists involved. Here are the first couple. Her name is Natalie Prass.

I have spent the last week laying down. No, not because I am really lazy, I twisted my ankle this last weekend. It has been a very interesting week. Not being able to move around really slows you down and allows you to think about things you don't normally think about. But, it is also making me want to be outside enjoying the beautiful weather. So this afternoon was my attempt at doing something adventurous....it didn't last as long as I wanted. I did manage to get out of the house and take a couple shots of myself. I have been thinking about lighting setups for Jr. High Rock Star, that is my motivation to do a little light testing.

I'm looking forward to the new season of life and photography.

One of my oldest Nashville friends Kyle Cooper got married this weekend. When I say "oldest" i mean that he was one of he first friends I had when I moved here. He and Lisa had a beautiful wedding this last weekend. I absolutely love shooting weddings in the fall. The wedding photos should be up soon. On Tuesday I met Andrew to take some photos for his junior recital at Belmont. We were out at the perfect time or my favorite time, sunset. He plays classical guitar and it is beautiful. Dylan and Meaghan's wedding was absolutely beautiful. It was elegant yet simple. They got married just outside of Atlanta, GA. The ceremony was in her parents backyard just around sunset. I love the Georgia trees, the sun looks amazing through them. The reception was at the club house, they live on a golf course. I brought a large rig with me. I had three lights on the dance floor. Two of them were shooting though umbrellas and one was through a large soft box. They love to dance! Everything was amazing. I did my best to capture the beauty of the wedding. Enjoy!

The leaves had just changed color and fallen off the trees. The leaves were everywhere in the small town. I am glad they left them on the ground. The pictures are beautiful.

Summer hit me before I really knew what was going on. We (our youth group) just got back from Camp Courtney last week. That is our youth summer camp. It was absolutely amazing!! It also took every pit of attention I had. This is an apology for the couple people who thought following my blog would be fun...i have not updated it in a long time....Sorry. Even though there is still a lot going on, I have not forgot about the wonderful cyber world of blogs. I am starting a project for one of my classes. Here are a couple examples of what I am looking at doing. It is for "Discovering God's Plan for Worship". I have a good understanding of what I want the project to look like but it would be challenging to type it out now....it's still a bit conceptual.

I just took these pictures at New Song Woodbine today. I was going to wait until I had more, but I am super excited about the pictures and can't wait. There are just a couple of the pictures. They have spent the last three months in Mexico (that is why there is a mexican flag). Today we had the chance to hear what the Lord did in all of their lives. It really sounded like He moved powerfully in everyones lives. My week in photos!

I don't usually have many weeks like this but i took a lot of pictures. Started the week off with a great senior portrait session with Austin Wagner. We went out to a friends house in the county and had a blast. They have bamboo on the property that separates their land from their neighbors. I have been out there many times and had never seen it. Then on Tuesday the Global Boot Campers returned from three month of mission work in Mexico. The Mexican Mustache was the most appropriate way to greet them back into the US. Please don't go crazy, I shaved it off that night. Then on Saturday my good friend Dylan Warnock and his fiance Megan were in town and we took some engagement pictures. We started off at Landmark Book Store in Downtown Franklin and ended up at the Joel's house in Downtown Franklin. I am super excited that I also get to shoot their wedding. Then last night, Sunday, I shot a wedding for Shawn and Jane Williams. They got married at Cheekwood. It was an amazing day full of laughter and a bit of rain. Their wedding was one of the most unique wedding I have ever been to. I don't use the word unique is a bad way, I had a blast. When you see the rest of the pictures you will understand what i mean by unique. I am excited about resting today!!

Last week i spend the afternoon with my friend Josh. He is a senior at Franklin High School. He was actually doing a senior job shadow. It was more like a day of coffee and photography. I had a blast. We actually went to Cream, it's a coffee shop in downtown Nashville. I love the lattes they make. Not only do they taste good but they look good.

Viking Cooking Class

There are a few things that I highly recommend people do when they are in Franklin and this is one of them. Some of my recomendations are eating at McCreary's Irish Pub, swing dancing at the Mercantile, and taking a cooking class at the Viking Store in the Factory. I was invited by my friend Trish Dubes and one of her friends joined us. The chef was awesome, and cooking was fun, the food was good, and time with new and old friends is always amazing!

The India Project

Last week myself and Stoney Noell partnered with Frontline to do a art exhibit for the India Project. We were selling art to raise money to build a water tower in India. A Holga is a plastic medium format toy camera. The camera does all of the cool effects, I have not done any Photoshop work on the images.
